Post them as tests, wait 3 days, and score each as views divided by your usual views. Track sign-ups or sales too, because views alone can mislead. Only call a winner after many posts, not 3. # Test short video hooks like experiments

## When to use

Small businesses and creators posting Reels or Shorts who want to know which openings actually work.

## Steps

1. Pick one video. Use the prompt below to write 3 different openings for the first 3 seconds.
2. Edit 3 versions that differ only in the opening.
3. Post them as trial reels where available. Instagram says trial reels are shown to non-followers first and do not appear on your grid unless you share them later.
4. Wait 3 days, then log views, sign-ups or messages for each.
5. Score each: views divided by your usual views for a post. Above 1 is better than usual.
6. After about 30 to 50 tests, write down the patterns that keep winning and use them by default.

## Prompt

Fill the [BRACKETED] parts with the user, then follow this prompt:

```
Write 3 different openings for the first 3 seconds of this short video. Keep everything after the opening the same.
What the video shows: [DESCRIPTION]
Who it is for: [AUDIENCE]
Make the 3 openings different types: a problem statement, a surprising result, and a direct question. Each under 12 words, on-screen text plus what is said. No claims I have not given you.
```

## Guardrails

- Draft first and show the user. Never send, post, pay, book, cancel or delete without the user's explicit approval of that exact action.
- Use only facts the user gives you or that you can cite. If something is missing, ask instead of guessing.

## Common snags

- Judging after one day.
- Changing the opening and the music at once.
- Chasing views from people who will never buy.
