What does this setup do?
Keep a master file of your real experience and have AI check every tailored resume or message against it, flagging any claim you cannot back up.
Who is it for?
Job seekers using AI to tailor resumes who worry it is inflating titles, numbers or skills.
How do you set it up?
Tools
- Claude or ChatGPT, ideally in a project
- Your master file of roles and results
- The tailored resume or message
Steps
- Write a master file: every role with dates, projects and results with real numbers. Only what you could explain in an interview.
- Save it in a Claude or ChatGPT project so each check starts from the same file.
- Paste the tailored resume or message and run the prompt below.
- Fix or delete every line marked NOT SUPPORTED or STRETCHED.
- Re-run until everything is SUPPORTED.
- Add new results to the master file as they happen, not when job hunting.
Example output
Illustrative. Your results will differ.
- STRETCHED: 'Led a team of 8' vs master file 'Trained 3 new hires'
- NOT SUPPORTED: 'Expert in Salesforce'
- Fix: 'Trained 3 new hires on the scheduling system'

Copy-paste prompt
Adapt bracketed fields to your situation.
Compare this tailored resume to my master file. Check every line.
Master file: [IN PROJECT, OR PASTE]
Tailored resume or message: [PASTE]
For each line, mark:
- SUPPORTED: quote the matching master-file line
- STRETCHED: the claim is bigger than the master file (title, number, scope); show both
- NOT SUPPORTED: nothing in the master file backs it
Then list only the STRETCHED and NOT SUPPORTED lines with a fix that stays true.Newsletter

What usually goes wrong?
Where agents tend to stall on this job. More patterns in Where AI gets stuck.
- A master file that is itself vague, so everything looks supported.
- Accepting a stretched title because it sounds better.
- Checking the resume but not the cover letter or outreach note.

Common questions
- Does AI make up experience on resumes?
- It can inflate titles, numbers or skills when tailoring. Check every line against a master file of what is true.
- What is a master resume?
- One file with every role, project and real result, used as the source for every tailored version.
- How do I check it quickly?
- Have AI mark each line supported, stretched or not supported against the master file, then fix the flags.
What tips make it smoother?
- Numbers are where inflation hides; check every one.
- Skills lists drift fastest; keep only what you have used for real.
- An interviewer will ask about any line. If you cannot tell the story, cut it.
