Quick answer

In Search Console, open Performance, add a Query filter, choose Custom (regex) and paste ^(?:\S+\s+){7,}\S+$ to see searches of 8 words or more. Export them, have AI group them, and answer the high-impression, low-click questions at the top of the page that already shows up.

What does this setup do?

Pull every long, specific question that showed your site in Google from Search Console, group them with AI, and answer the best ones on the page that already ranks.

Who is it for?

Small business and content sites that get impressions in Google but few clicks.

How do you set it up?

Tools

  • Google Search Console
  • ChatGPT or Claude
  • Your site editor

Steps

  1. Open Search Console, then Performance, then Search results. Set the date to the last 3 months.
  2. Add a filter: Query, then Custom (regex). Google added regex filters to Performance reports. Paste ^(?:\S+\s+){7,}\S+$ to match searches of 8 or more words.
  3. Export the table with queries, pages, impressions, clicks and position.
  4. Upload it and run the prompt below to group the questions and pick the best ones.
  5. For each pick, add a short direct answer near the top of the page that already ranks, in plain words.
  6. Check the same filter in 4 weeks to see if clicks moved.

Example output

Illustrative. Your results will differ.

  • how much does it cost to pump a septic tank in vermont: 140 impressions, 2 clicks, position 9
  • Page: /services/septic-pumping/
  • Draft answer: Most septic pumping jobs in our area run [YOUR PRICE RANGE]; here is what changes the price.

I uploaded a Search Console export of searches with 8 or more words. Use only this file.

1. Group the queries into questions that mean the same thing.
2. For each group: total impressions, total clicks, average position, and the page that shows up.
3. Pick the 10 groups with the most impressions and fewest clicks.
4. For each, draft a 2 to 3 sentence answer for the top of that page, using only facts I confirm.

What usually goes wrong?

Where agents tend to stall on this job. More patterns in Where AI gets stuck.

  • Too short a date range, so the list is empty.
  • Writing a new page instead of improving the one that ranks.
  • Answers that bury the question under an introduction.

Which chat tools work with this prompt?

Paste the prompt into any of these assistants (free or paid tiers).

  • ChatGPT
  • Claude

Common questions

How do I find long-tail questions in Search Console?
Add a Query filter with Custom (regex) and use ^(?:\S+\s+){7,}\S+$ to list searches of 8 or more words.
What do I do with them?
Answer the high-impression, low-click questions near the top of the page that already ranks.
Does this help with AI search?
Long, specific questions look like the questions people ask AI assistants, so clear answers are useful in both places.

What tips make it smoother?

  • These long questions are close to what people type into ChatGPT, so clear answers help there too.
  • Answer on the page that already ranks; a new page starts from zero.
  • Small sites may see only a handful; that is still a list of real questions.
