Quick answer
Here's how I'd set this up in ChatGPT or Claude (not run by us yet). I'd pull my plan's broadband label from my provider account, check what other providers charge at my address, then rehearse the retention call in chat before I call or message the provider myself.

What does this setup do?
You gather your current plan details and a few competitor prices for your address, ChatGPT or Claude drafts a short script for the provider's retention team, and you practice the call in chat before you make it yourself.
Who is it for?
For anyone whose internet promo price ran out, or who has never asked their provider for a better rate.
How do you set it up?
Tools
- ChatGPT Free or Claude Free
- Your current bill and your plan's broadband label, which providers must make available in your online account
- Two or three competitor plans you can get at your address, checked on those providers' own sites
Steps
- Log in to your provider account. Note your monthly price, fees, speed, and whether you're under contract. The broadband label lists the plan's price and fees.
- Check two or three other providers' sites with your address. Write down the plan, speed, and monthly price for each.
- Paste your facts into the chat with the prompt below. It drafts a short script and ranks what to ask for.
- Practice once. Ask the chat to play the retention agent and push back, then adjust your script.
- Call or message the provider yourself. Ask for the retention or loyalty team, give your competitor price, and ask what they can do.
- Before you accept, ask for the new price, how long it lasts, and any fees in writing.
Example output
Illustrative. Your results will differ.
- Call script, 110 words
- 3 asks ranked: lower rate, fee removal, speed upgrade
- Practice round done. Nothing sent.

Help me get a lower internet bill. Don't contact my provider for me.
My provider and plan: [provider, plan name, speed]
What I pay each month, with fees: [amount]
Contract or promo end date: [date or none]
Competitor plans at my address (checked on their sites): [provider, speed, price]
What I want: [lower price / same price with faster speed / remove a fee]
How long I've been a customer: [years]
1. Write a call script under 120 words that's polite and specific.
2. List 3 things to ask for, in order.
3. Then play the provider's retention agent. Push back the way a real agent might, one reply at a time, so I can practice.
Rules: Use only the prices I gave you. If I haven't given a competitor price, tell me to get one first. Don't invent offers.Free starter pack

What usually goes wrong?
Where agents tend to stall on this job. More patterns in Where AI gets stuck.
- If no other provider serves your address, you have less to bargain with. Ask about a lower tier or dropping a fee instead.
- A new deal can come with a new contract. Ask before you agree.
- The chat only knows the prices you give it. A stale competitor price weakens the call.

Common questions
- How do I negotiate my internet bill?
- Know your current price and fees, check what other providers charge at your address, then ask your provider's retention team to match or beat it. Get any new price and its end date in writing.
- Can ChatGPT negotiate my internet bill for me?
- In this setup it doesn't contact your provider. It writes your script and plays the retention agent so you can practice. You make the call.
- What is a broadband label?
- It's an FCC-required summary of an internet plan's price, fees, data limits, and speeds. Providers must show it when you buy and make it available in your online account.
- What should I say to get a lower internet bill?
- Say how long you've been a customer, what you pay, the competitor price at your address, and the price you want. Then ask what they can offer.
Where should you go next on this site?
What tips make it smoother?
- Use a competitor price you checked for your own address. National ads may not apply where you live.
- Ask when the new price ends and set a reminder for that date.
- If the first answer is no, ask politely whether someone else can review the account.
