Quick answer
Paste your book notes into the AI and ask it to extract the three to five ideas worth acting on, each as a concrete next step. Your reading starts paying rent.

Basis (estimate): Estimate only: turning a book of notes into usable actions by hand means re-reading and distilling; no timed study found.
What does this setup do?
Process raw book notes and highlights into a short list of decisions, experiments, and actions, plus a one-page reference you will actually revisit.
Who is it for?
Readers with a notes app full of highlights that never changed anything.
How do you set it up?
Tools
- ChatGPT or Claude
- Your book notes or highlights (exported or pasted)
- The decisions you are currently facing, so notes connect to real choices
Steps
- Export your highlights or paste your chapter notes into the AI.
- Tell the AI what decisions you are facing at work or in life right now.
- Ask it to extract the three to five ideas most relevant to those decisions. Not a summary, a shortlist.
- For each idea, ask for one concrete action: what to try, by when, and how you will know it worked.
- Ask for a one-page reference: the idea, why it matters to you, and the action. Save it where you will see it.
- Schedule a 30-day review. Ask the AI to turn your notes into review questions for that date.
- Delete or archive the rest. A highlight you will never act on is clutter with good branding.
Example output
Illustrative. Your results will differ.
- 45-minute meeting condensed to 8 action items
- Each item has an owner and a due date
- Skim the list. Fix anything wrong before sharing.

I finished a book and took notes, but I want decisions, not a summary.
Book: [TITLE AND AUTHOR]
My notes and highlights:
[PASTE NOTES]
Decisions I am currently facing:
[LIST 2 TO 4 REAL DECISIONS, e.g. pricing change, hiring, morning routine]
Please:
1. Pull out the three to five ideas from my notes most relevant to these decisions. Ignore the rest.
2. For each idea: restate it in one sentence, say why it matters for my specific decision, and give me one concrete action with a deadline.
3. Build a one-page reference I can revisit: idea, why it matters, action, and how I will know it worked.
4. Write five review questions I can use in 30 days to test whether I actually applied any of this.
Do not summarize the whole book. Focus only on what connects to my decisions. If none of my notes connect, tell me that plainly.Newsletter

What usually goes wrong?
Where agents tend to stall on this job. More patterns in Where AI gets stuck.
- The AI will happily summarize instead of deciding. Keep redirecting it to actions tied to your decisions.
- Vague actions like "communicate better" die on contact. Demand a concrete first step with a date.
- If your notes are just quotes with no context, the AI has little to work with. Add a line about why each quote mattered.

Common questions
- What if I do not have any decisions pending?
- Then process the notes into a one-page reference and file it by topic. When a decision comes up, you will have ammunition ready.
- Should I still take notes by hand while reading?
- Whatever gets the ideas out of your head fastest. The AI processing step works on handwriting transcripts, exports, or typed notes equally.
- How is this different from a book summary?
- A summary tells you what the book said. This tells you what you are going to do differently. Only the second one changes anything.
What tips make it smoother?
- Connect notes to live decisions before you process them. Notes without a decision attached rarely get used.
- Limit yourself to three to five actions per book. Ten actions means zero actions.
- The 30-day review is the whole game. Schedule it when you finish the book, not later.
- Write the action in your task list, not just your notes app. Notes do not nag you; tasks do.
